April Fools: Blame the French

I always wondered how April Fools Day got started. Although no one seems to know for sure, it appears that the French might be responsible for all those tricks. The reluctance of the French to celebrate New Years based on the new Gregorian calendar seems plausible. Still, there are better things to blame on the French than a meaningless, quasi-holiday.
