Tale of Two Coups

There are two countries that are experiencing democratic protests against authoritarian rule - Pakistan and Venezuela. In Pakistan, Musharraf is trying to prevent extremists from taking control (or so he claims, which at least seems plausible). The result in a U.S. media (and State Department) that seems more willing to accept an Islamofascist democracy than a friendly dictatorship.

Meanwhile in Venezuela, Chavez has removed all opposition, handpicked the Court and made himself ruler for life. Yet there isn't a peep from the U.S. media about the huge demonstrations. I wonder why...
