Delay Draws Line in Sand Against SS Tax Increase

While I love the idea of Social Security reform and instituting private accounts as part of the reform package, I would rather see nothing done at all than see Republicans raising taxes to institute such reform. For some reason, Republicans always believe that giving in to Democratic demands (in this case, tax increases) will get them something in return. We have heard this week several Republicans, from Lindsey Graham to President Bush, stating implicitly that the prospect of raising taxes is still on the table.

Fortunately we have the following statement from Tom DeLay, who appears not to be giving an inch: "This Republican House didn't come here to raise taxes," DeLay said on Fox News. "We can solve this problem without raising taxes."

Amen to that.
