Dems Filibuster Death Tax Reform

The U.S. Senate blocked a bill that would have repealed, or at least modified, the estate tax. The bill had 57 of the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster. Sen. John Kyl (R-AZ) had a good proposal:

A proposal offered by Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., would exempt the first $5 million of a person's estate, or $10 million for a couple, according to news reports. The amount over $5 million but less than $30 million would be taxed at the capital gains rate of 15%, while the amount exceeding $30 million would be taxed at a rate of 30%.

Well, the Democrats are living up to their high-tax and filibuster expertise.
