Who to Blame on Oil Prices

As most people know, oil prices are driven in the short term by a number of factors, including speculation, new reserve finds, marginal demand and supply. The media, of course, would like to blame it all on President Bush.

If there is a political party to blame, it is the Democrats. Apart from stating the obvious that the environmentalists have prevented the building of refineries, nuclear plants or additional drilling since the 70s, let's look at a recent history of oil prices.

When Democrats took control of both houses of Congress in November 2006, oil was less than $51 per barrel. Democrats campaigned in 2006 on reducing the price of oil (which however comical, was part of Pelosi's 100 day plan). Oil is now around $124 and the MSM has conveniently forgotten all of these facts.
