How Cool Could Obama's Inauguration Have Been

Was thinking about this all last week, as the historical inauguration took place. How cool would this have been if it had happened this way?:

January 19, 2009: Obama announces to the American public that he feels their pain. He understands that people are losing their jobs and that government spending has run amok. He announces to the public that he will be keeping his campaign promise to look at all wasteful spending line by line and that he's going to eliminate all unnecessary elements. He suddenly announces a first. He's going to forego the expensive inauguration and all the celebratory parties and balls that go along with it. Instead, he will be holding a small ceremony indoors and it will be televised so that all can see it. It's a measure that he hopes ALL Americans will understand, both Republicans and Democrats. Extraordinary measures for extraordinary times. An extraordinary man perhaps? And fully in line with his theme of hope and change.

Hey, I can dream, can't I?

We all know how it really went down, but wouldn't this have started his presidency off on the right foot?
