Lots of Fraud in Food Stamps Program

With the food stamps program "poised for a historic expansion," the government tells us that they expect about $400 million, or 2% of the increase, to be wasted due to fraud. More tellingly, however, is how little the government seems to care about this type of fraud. According to Joel Berg, a top official in the program during the Clinton administration:

"It's easier to get a driver's license than food stamps," said Joel Berg, a top official in the assistance program during President Clinton's administration. "You can do a lot of damage with a driver's license. ... To my knowledge, no one has died in a food stamps-fraud accident."

This rationale is precisely what is wrong with government spending programs across the board.
