Protectionism: Cluelessanomics
US cities and states, urged by Obama, to buy American, are rejecting Canadian-manufactured products. What happened to repairing American relations abroad?
The reason this whole thing is absurd is that while some are forced to buy American, a huge part of Obama's stimulus package benefits foreign companies. Obama is a big proponent of wind energy for example. Does he know that 5 out of the top 6 wind turbine manufacturers are NOT American? Take road infrastructure: does he know how many American cement companies there are in the top 10 in the United States? Can't be more than one.
It's crazy. Companies will buy American if American companies have the best and/or the cheapest products. If not, they'll go elsewhere. To force people to buy products is un-American, and probably a waste of money in my book.
