Washington Post Using "Polls" to Editorialize
WaPo is getting very clever in the way it editorializes in the guise of a new poll, which shows that the pessimism about the public's view on Iraq and President Bush. The problem: the poll is garbage. Daly Thoughts has a good rundown of the problems with the poll (apart from the fact that respondents were 48% Democratic leaning and 34% Republican leaning.)
There's only one point that I believe: "More than four in 10 believe the U.S. presence in Iraq is becoming analogous to the experience in Vietnam."
Iraq and Vietnam are analogous is one way - the way the media has opposed each war. The media has gone far out of its way to portray the U.S. as imperialists and the military as part of an evil that helps spread animosity against Americans. It's an understatement to say that the media cares far more about hurting Bush than helping either Iraq or the U.S.
