Coulter: Single Motherhood is Literally Killing America

Today's article by Ann Coulter in Human Events about violent crime has two excellent points. First, she correctly states that the media loves to focus on returning GIs and the seemingly endless wave of homicides they commit (read: the military is bad and creates murderous thugs of our soldiers). Of course, what the media never mentions are the same homicide statistics for non-military men, which is definitively higher that those of military men.

Second, Coulter discusses single motherhood and its impact on crime.

By 1996, 70 percent of inmates in state juvenile detention centers serving long-term sentences were raised by single mothers. Seventy percent of teenage births, dropouts, suicides, runaways, juvenile delinquents and child murderers involve children raised by single mothers. Girls raised without fathers are more sexually promiscuous and more likely to end up divorced.

A 1990 study by the left-wing Progressive Policy Institute showed that, after controlling for single motherhood, the difference in black and white crime disappeared.

The media has recently been quick to attack Coulter for her statements about single motherhood, but I have never heard any of them question the statistics that she uses to make her judgements. Personalities aside (and Coulter definitely likes to create heated debate in interviews), the Left wing cannot bring itself to present the facts. (I suppose that's why we're going to have more ineffective policies coming our way...)
