Advice to Republicans: Look at NJ

I believe that many Republicans continue to take the wrong message from these last two electoral defeats. After 2006, the GOP decided that moving more toward the center was the right move, and they compromised on policy. They even nominated a true middle of the road, quasi-independent candidate, in John McCain. Look where it got them. Again after 2008, many in the GOP continue to think that moving more left will win them votes.

Unlikely.

My advice: look at NJ polls right now. Both GOP candidates are out-polling Democratic Governor Corzine. Republicans just need to hold their ground, and stick with core principles like smaller government, lower taxes, and freedom. Many Republicans believe that they need to compromise with Obama on increasing taxes, nationalizing healthcare, and limiting free trade.

If Republicans can move back to their core conservative beliefs, they will clean up in 2010. If they move more to the center, they will alienate the base even more. Simple as that.
