GOP Victory in Alexandria, VA: First in Decade

Small mercies. In the local politics of Alexandria, VA, an extremely liberal community just outside Washington, DC, two Republican-backed candidates, Frank Fannon and Alicia Hughes, defeated two Democrats to win seats on the Alexandria City Council. This is the first time since 2000 any Republican has been elected for the Council.

While not exactly a national statement, there is no question that there is significant dissatisfaction with today's political environment, even in Democrat strongholds. Perhaps even Democrats are getting fed up with talk of higher taxes and increased spending...
