Kofi Blames Oil-for-Food Scandal on America, Britain

Just as it's the fault of firefighters whenever there's a fire and it's the fault of policemen whenever there's a murder, Kofi Annan believes it's the fault of America and Britain that there was a UN oil-for-food scandal.
Only countries like the United States and Britain had interdiction forces that could have stopped it, he said. But he charged that they "decided to close their eyes to Turkey and Jordan because they are allies."

"The bulk of the money Saddam made came after smuggling outside the oil-for-food program," Annan said. "It was on the American and British watch."

People ask whether it's the job of the U.S. to be the world's policeman. Kofi just answered that question. Next time he complains about the war in Iraq, I hope someone reminds him of his statements.
