Media Wants to Believe Bush Will Close Gitmo

Chalk this one up to wishful thinking. In an interview with Neil Cavuto, President Bush responded to Cavuto's question of closing down Gitmo with "We're exploring all alternatives as to how best to do the main objective, which is to protect America."

From that statement, the MSM now proclaims proudly, "Bush Open to Possibly Closing Gitmo." There is no way this happens. If Bush were to close Gitmo, it would be a major victory for the entire anti-American crowd, including the ACLU, Amnesty International, and former President Carter. This is about repudiating Bush's entire foreign policy and closing the prison would be just the first step. The next step would be to outlaw all foreign prisons, so that all prisoners are transferred to U.S. prison cells and receive taxpayer-funded lawyers.

Bush knows the turmoil that will ensue if he decides to close Gitmo, so it won't happen...but the media can still dream.
