UAW President: No Concessions

The leader of the UAW said that his workers will make "no more concessions" to help turn around the Big 3 automakers. Instead, he wants the federal government to throw money around to rescue their cushy pensions and benefits.

The truth is that a bankruptcy might be best for the industry in the long run. It will help make the union realize that maintaining pay and benefits well above its competitors at Toyota, Honda and others is not the way to regain market share.

Unfortunately, a bailout is exactly what Democrats want to give their union friends. I just hope President Bush has the good sense to veto the bill and let the Dems take full responsibility once Obama is sworn in.
