Repaid TARP Funds to Become Obama Slush Fund?

In a CNBC interview this morning, Democrat Governor Jon Corzine confirmed my worries about the TARP funds when they are repaid by banks. When asked whether banks such as Goldman Sachs should be "allowed" to repay the TARP funds, Corzine said that they should - and it would then allow the government to use the repaid money for other programs such as mortgage modifications (buying homes of delinquent borrowers) and elsewhere.

I'm now torn on whether I want the banks to repay TARP funds. On the one hand, the less government involvement in business, the better (proven time and again from Amtrak to GM). On the other hand, today's TARP program is making good money for taxpayers, so we're actually getting a good deal. Once the funds are returned and they go into the Obama Slush Fund to be used as he sees fit within the extremely broad parameters set by the Treasury, it's going to be a guaranteed money flush to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.

This is going to be another great example of how new government programs, however well intentioned, ultimately morph into giant mounds of waste.
