New York Judge is Above the New ID Law

There has been a lot of news recently about the passage of the REAL ID Act, which would require states to actually verify that drivers license applicants are in the U.S. legally.

Unfortunately, New York Supreme Court Justice Karen Smith ruled on Tuesday that the Department of Motor Vehicles may NOT deny licenses to those without any id, which effectively overturns the new law passed by Congress.

It must be nice to be a judge - you can single-handedly overturn any law you don't like. Jefferson, Washington and Hamilton would not be pleased with our new judicial monarchy.

The response from the left: "This is a quick fix that won't do anything to stop terrorists or enhance our safety. It will only further diminish our privacy rights." A rather weak argument; it invades my privacy as much as it does when a liquor store asks me for id to buy alcohol. The only people who will be affected are those who are breaking the law.
