Prescription Drug Plan Might be Working

Although I have been very skeptical of the new large prescription drug entitlement program, it might actually be working as planned. Al Hubbard, Director of the National Economic Council, appeared on Kudlow & Company today and offered some optimism.

He said that the White House originally planned a program cost of $36 per month per beneficiary. However, because of the increase in consumer choice and awareness, the actual costs of the program have come in at approximately $25 per month per beneficiary, or 30% lower than original estimates.

It's still too early to say conservatives have been proven wrong about the enormous costs and lack of free market forces in the plan, but Hubbard offered some hopeful preliminary results. I will look forward to seeing further confirmation of cost reductions.
