Eliot Spitzer vs. Tony Soprano

Jay Bryant at Townhall explains that Eliot Spitzer's next act might well be against the subprime mortgage industry. Bryant notes Spitzer's blatant overreach and reminds us that, like Tony Soprano, Spitzer is nothing more than a crooked Attorney General: "He breaks the law. He lies. He intimidates. He makes his own rules, and he gets what he wants. And yet he remains a very popular guy. "

Regardless of the merits of any case, Spitzer can claim he is bringing "reform" to some area of industry and then later ride to his desired political office. Godfather Spitzer's latest act appears to be taking on the sub-prime mortgage industry because lenders charge too high interest rates for lower income families. (Nevermind that there is a reason lenders charge higher rates for less-quality credits.) So watch out mortgage lenders - because it doesn't matter how poor the rationale for Spitzer's actions. Just like with Tony Soprano, businesses under question don't have the opportunity to challenge Spitzer's accusations without severe consequences.
