Next Supreme Court Justice Must Be Hispanic - Why?

I'm responding to the many articles written by intellectuals stating that Obama should choose a Hispanic for the Supreme Court. Why?

Why is it important for that a Supreme Court Justice speaks Spanish? Or why is it important that he/she had parents that spoke Spanish? I could see why it would make sense that our ambassador to Mexico should have the requirement of speaking Spanish, but why the Supreme Court? Aren't our laws written in English?

Some might look at the US population and say, look - it's 10% of the US population and there are no hispanics on the high court. Some would say, it's imperative because we need someone who can empathize with the hispanic point of view. Ok fine - then tell me, what is the hispanic point of view, and on which topic?

Do hispanics think differently? If so, how? Is it because they are generally more religious? If so, then the requirement should be for a religious thinker, hispanic or not hispanic, no? If it's because they're from a more blue collar background, shouldn't the requirement be for anyone, hispanic or not, from this background then? Of if it's a question of income, maybe the requirement should be for anyone worth below a certain level, but again, not sure why it has to be hispanic. Carlos Slim probably doesn't either. In Mexico, do they consider hiring judges of American ancestory for their highest court?

It is my impression that the Supreme Court justices are supposed to be the finest judges in the land - shouldn't this be the only requirement?

Answer: not in Obama's mind.
