Obama vs Feherty: Media Doublestandard

David Feherty, the golf commentator from CBS is known for his wit. He's always cracking jokes. He's also known for being a patriot. Although he hails from Ireland, he's a big supporter of US troops in Iraq and visited them well before Barack Obama ever set foot in the country. But recently, Feherty has come under fire for a joke he made:

"if you gave any U.S. soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Osama bin Laden, there’s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death.”

CBS quickly distanced themselves, indicating the Feherty's comments were "inappropriate" and they hoped "he will use better judgement in the future." Media Matters, a watchdog group, went further, calling Feherty's comments "disgusting" and demanding an apology.

Compare this with Obama's joke last night at the comedic correspondents' dinner, where he said that Dick Cheney couldn't make it because he was writing a memo entitled: How to Shoot Friends and Interrogate People.

Here's the issue here. It's the double-standard media has. We have one known joke-teller, always telling jokes, and when he says something a little close to the edge, the media goes nuts. Then we have Obama. A very un-funny man. You can say a lot of things about him, but joke-telling - well - he's not funny at all. Even his most ardent supporters would claim that Obama is a dullard at best. No criticism though, and in fact, Obama's joke was aimed at US policy and an actual incident where someone actually was shot.
